Dudareva, Galina Vasil'evna
Galina Vasil'evna was interviewed twice by Irina Flige, the first time in April
2004, the second in January 2005. She talks about her parents' family backrgounds,
and about her father's work in the Party. The core of the interview concerns
the family's fate after the arrest of her father. She recounts the efforts of
her mother Irina to locate her father after his arrest, and relates how Irina refused
to renounce him, despite pressure from the Party committee at her factory, as a result
of which she was expelled from the Party. Galina recounts how she and her sister were
rescued from an orphanage by their grandmother after the arrest of their mother. Some
of the most interesting sections of these interviews concern Irina's attitudes
to rehabilitation and readmission to the Party after 1956: a veteran Leninist, she
broke entirely with the Party as a result of Stalin's policies and her own experience.
One of the youngest interviewees in the project, Galina mainly talks about her mother's
life, but she also reflects on the development of her own political attitudes in the
1950s and 1960s which were deeply influenced by the repression of her parents.
