Danilova, Nataliia Stepanovna
Nataliia Stepanovna was twice interviewed by Irina Ostrovskaia, first in December
2004, and then again in February 2005. She talks about her mother's noble ancestors,
about her parents and her aunts, and about her childhood in a communal apartment in
the centre of Moscow, recalling how her family concealed its origins from its proletarian
neighbours. She gives a vivid and detailed description of the living conditions and
domestic customs in the apartment, emphasizing the domineering role of her two aunts.
She also talks about the response of her mother and two aunts to the arrest of her
father, whose name was not mentioned in the apartment.
